About you

If you like to dig into the detail and enjoy turning a client brief into a delivered project, then this could be the role for you.   

We’re looking for a digital project manager with circa 3+ years’ experience, who is confident and able to own a project from specification to testing and launch. Someone who is comfortable dealing with clients and enjoys working with a development team day to day. Proactivity, flexibility and a desire to always do things better and learn is more important than qualifications in any specific project management methodologies.

About the role

The role is focused on specifying and delivering a wide range of digital projects on time and on budget.

You will be responsible for owning your projects from statement of work to launch including:

  • Working with the Client Manager to scope projects and create estimates
  • Coordinating the specification section of the Statement of Work
  • Creating and updating project plans for time and budget including tools such as Microsoft Planner and Jira
  • Daily stand-ups with the developers working on your project
  • Identifying, communicating and working to resolve any issues that arise throughout the project
  • Internal progress updates to the Client Manager
  • External progress updates to the Client
  • Time and cost reporting
  • Coordination of testing
  • Coordination of launch
  • Proactive communications with developers, colleagues and clients throughout a project
  • Management of support tickets

Who you will be working with:

The Tech Dept Team

You will be working closely with the Client Manager who is responsible for the strategic direction of the client. They will work with you to identify and scope projects that will help the client improve their business, which you will then own the delivery of.

You will also work closely with our development team; the role is very ‘hands on’ with a lot of interaction with the developers and clients to ensure the projects stay on track. The team are helpful, approachable and we all take a collaborative approach to problem solving.

As we’re fully remote you can work from anywhere as long as you get your tasks done and communicate clearly. We’ve found remote works for us incredibly well. Proactive communications with the team will be the key to your success. When we’re able to, we’ll have regular meet ups in person.

We are a tight group and this is a great company to work for – all but one of the team has been at The Tech Dept for 3 years or more, and several are approaching a decade.

Last summer, after 16 years of having an office in Central Sheffield we went fully remote. This got a lot of press locally and we ended up being featured on national ITV News. Our team loves the flexibility, the lack of commute and the reduction in office ‘noise’. This doesn’t mean we don’t see each other – we speak as a group every morning and have quarterly days out where we meet for the afternoon and evening.
